BMD Founder Mick Power AM awarded Honorary Doctorate
Since founding BMD in 1979, Mick has built the company into Australia’s largest privately owned civil construction business, delivering major infrastructure projects nationally and internationally. Today, BMD generates more than $2.4 billion in annual turnover and employs more than 2,400 employees.
Mick has built his career on a values-led approach to leadership with a focus on projects that connect and strengthen communities.
“Success is not only measured by what we build, but by the opportunities we create for others. “This philosophy has guided me throughout my career and continues to shape BMD today.” Mick said. For more than four decades, Mick has championed long-term partnerships with charities, community programs and grassroots initiatives. BMD now contributes over $1.5 million annually to philanthropic and, community programs and actively supports initiatives spanning sport, education, healthcare, the arts, and veterans’ services. BMD employees across the country take part in hands-on volunteering, fundraising and disaster recovery support, including BMD’s well-known “ute army”.
Mick’s commitment to women in sport and underrepresented groups is significant. BMD is a major partner in Australian sport, with seven key partnerships spanning the country: the Brisbane Lions, Western Sydney Wanderers, Perth Scorchers, BMD Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club, North Queensland Cowboys, Melbourne Vixens, and Queensland Rugby League. Along with Wynnum Manly Junior Rugby League for over 40 years, supporting golf through our Pro Am series including the Richest One Day Pro Am and junior and senior golf pennants for more than 25 years at Wynnum Golf Club, and the major funding of the Power Family Music Hall at Moreton Bay College, these sponsorships reflect BMD’s long standing commitment to strengthening its local community and supporting opportunities across sport, education and the arts not just in our heartland but nationally and internationally. These sponsorships reflect BMD’s community values in action, creating opportunities, supporting grassroots initiatives and driving inclusion across sport.
Mick’s personal values of Family, Driven, Empowered and Collaborative continue to underpin BMD’s culture and ongoing commitment to community, partnerships and delivering projects that leave a lasting impact beyond infrastructure.
Through decades of leadership, philanthropy and community engagement, Dr Mick Power AM has created an enduring impact that extends far beyond the projects BMD delivers, to strengthen communities, empower people and build legacies.
BMD is Australia’s leading integrated engineering, construction and urban development business, with foundations built on the family values that underpin our unique, collaborative approach.
Driven by a purpose of powering futures and creating enduring legacies through a commitment to collaboration, BMD is delivering infrastructure solutions that connect and transform communities.
