BMD shares progress through first Stretch RAP Progress Report
The report brings together achievements, challenges and learnings across relationships, cultural learning, employment, procurement and governance, reflecting activity underway across BMD’s projects, regions and corporate functions.
Among the progress reported, 206 unique First Nations businesses were engaged and $73.5 million spent with First Nations businesses across BMD projects and operations and BMD joint venture projects during FY2025–26. First Nations employment at BMD reached a peak of 92 employees, while 142 frontline leaders participated in cultural learning.
The report also identifies areas where further effort is required and the priorities that will guide the next phase of BMD’s Stretch RAP.
BMD Group Chief Executive Officer Scott Power said strong relationships had always been fundamental to the way BMD operates and continue to guide the company’s approach to reconciliation.
“Our Stretch RAP commitments are not separate from our business strategy. They are part of how we power futures, create enduring legacies and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, businesses and communities to create meaningful social and economic outcomes.
“Reconciliation is a long-term responsibility. While progress has been made, meaningful change requires consistency, humility, shared ownership and continued action.”
BMD National Indigenous Program Manager Dart Johnson said the RAP provided an important framework for accountability, but its intent extended beyond meeting a set of commitments.
“This work is about making reconciliation part of how we do business through the relationships we build, the opportunities we create, the businesses we engage and the way our people work and lead.
“We have made progress, but meaningful change takes consistency, shared ownership and continued action. This report gives us a clear view of where progress is being made and where further focus is required.”
The report recognises the contribution of BMD’s First Nations employees, Traditional Owners, First Nations businesses and community partners, alongside teams across BMD who are helping turn commitments into practical action.
