BMD to deliver Melbourne’s Eastern Freeway Upgrade
This marks the first major upgrade in over 30 years, designed to reduce travel times and improve capacity in Melbourne’s east, and will be delivered by BMD in partnership with CPB Contractors and Arup.
The project includes upgrades to 4.5 kilometres of the Eastern Freeway, adding extra lanes, new traffic management technology and elevated ramps to streamline traffic and support faster and smoother trips. The project will also upgrade freeway ramps, walking and cycling paths and build a new pedestrian overpass at Eram Park.
BMD Constructions Chief Executive Officer Scott Power highlighted BMD’s strong track record delivering projects in partnership with MRPV.
“Being awarded this stage of the Eastern Freeway Upgrades as part of Synergy is a testament to BMD’s capability in delivering complex infrastructure that connects and transforms communities. It builds on our successful delivery of Mickleham Road Upgrade – Stage 1, Hall Road Upgrade, Fitzsimons Lane Upgrade and Barwon Heads Road Upgrade.”
“The Eastern Freeway Upgrades will connect to North East Link and the M80 Ring Road in Greensborough, with innovative and relationship-based approaches guiding our way. We’re proud to be working alongside our partners as one team, united in our commitment to delivering lasting outcomes for the community,” he said.
Early works and site investigations are underway, marking the first major step towards Synergy contribution to this legacy project for Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
Project completion is expected in 2028.
