BMD Leed Joint Venture transforming major South Australian interchange
The Verdun Interchange Upgrade includes construction of a new eastbound entry ramp, westbound exit ramp and a single-lane roundabout at the Mount Barker Road and Silver Road junction. Scheduled to open to traffic in late 2027, the project will boost commuter safety, enhance connectivity and improve traffic flow to support current and future growth of the wider Adelaide Hills region.
Operating in South Australia for 18 years, BMD has built strong relationships and delivered complex infrastructure across the state. Recent works in the Adelaide Hills for the Department for Infrastructure and Transport include the South Eastern Freeway Managed Motorway Upgrade between Crafers and Stirling, as well as the upcoming River Road Junction improvements.
Teaming up with Leed and trusted design partner Mott MacDonald, who recently worked closely with BMD on the Mickleham Road – Stage 1 upgrade in Victoria, this collaboration draws on proven expertise and local knowledge. Together, the partnership is well placed to deliver a design that improves the area’s overall functionality while minimising disruption to traffic and the surrounding community.
BMD Constructions Southern Region General Manager Antony Damiani said the Verdun Interchange Upgrade project reflects a strategic and informed approach to infrastructure delivery in South Australia.
“By leveraging our deep understanding of local conditions and longstanding relationships across the region, we’ve worked closely with our joint venture partner Leed to further develop the design and construction approach to deliver value for money,” Mr Damiani said.
“This includes streamlined ramp alignments, an integral bridge structure and improved drainage systems. All of which support ease of construction and long-term maintenance."
"Together with Leed, we’re drawing on our combined expertise to deliver critical infrastructure that meets the state’s needs. We’re also focused on strengthening industry partnerships, developing a skilled workforce, and maximising social and economic opportunities as part of this important project,” he said.
The Verdun Interchange Upgrade marks another significant step in BMD’s long-term commitment to South Australia. With the design progressing in earnest to enable works to commence on site later 2025, the BMD Leed Joint Venture is gearing up to transform the Verdun Interchange and connect the Adelaide Hills.
