BMD has been appointed by Tilt Renewables to design and construct the Palmer Wind Farm in South Australia, building on its renewable energy portfolio and reinforcing its continued growth in the sector.

The Palmer Wind Farm, located 70 kilometres east of Adelaide, is a significant project with the potential to generate up to 288MW of renewable energy, enough to power approximately 142,000 South Australian homes.

BMD will deliver the balance of plant project scope, including the civil and electrical infrastructure to support up to 40 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 7.2MW – the first of this size in Australia. The works include substations, underground cabling and overhead transmission lines connecting the wind farm to the electricity grid.

The BMD Group’s infrastructure advisory business unit, Empower, is leading the project’s design, delivering value optimisation through BMD’s vertically integrated offering. Adelaide-based partner RJE Global will lead the electrical works, drawing on experience across more than 50 wind farms nationwide.

BMD General Manager VIC/SA/TAS Ivan Fratric said securing the Palmer Wind Farm reflects BMD’s capability in complex renewable energy and its capacity to undertake large-scale projects across South Australia.

“Drawing on more than 15 years’ experience in energy and renewables infrastructure, BMD brings a proven track record in delivering wind farms, informed by lessons learned on projects such as Hawkesdale Wind Farm in Victoria and Crookwell 2 Wind Farm in New South Wales.

“Together with BMD’s inhouse designer Empower and electrical partner RJE Global, we are well positioned to leverage experience and regional insight to construct Palmer Wind Farm safely and efficiently,” Mr Fratric said.

“With precision and expertise, our specialist team will drive the construction of Palmer Wind Farm, ultimately enhancing the energy grid to benefit local communities and advance South Australia’s renewable energy transition.”

With construction on site set to begin mid-2026, the Palmer Wind Farm strengthens BMD’s commitment to powering a more sustainable future through its work on projects that support the clean energy transition.
