Powerlink appoints BMD for Central Queensland transmission project

dsc07839
BMD Constructions has been awarded a contract by Powerlink Queensland to deliver site preparation works for the Calvale to Calliope River Transmission Reinforcement Project in Central Queensland.

The project forms the first stage of Powerlink’s Gladstone Project, a broader program of transmission network upgrades designed to support the safety, reliability and security of electricity supply in the region.

BMD’s package will enable the construction readiness ahead of the electrical works commencing in August. The scope includes construction of new access tracks along the proposed 87-kilometre transmission line, bulk earthworks for 188 tower pads, and preparation of respective brake and winch sites.

As part of the works, BMD will also deliver a project nursery and support the identification and management of a cycad translocation program, helping protect native plants within the project corridor.

BMD Group CEO Scott Power said the project represented an important opportunity to support critical energy infrastructure while delivering meaningful outcomes for Central Queensland businesses, suppliers and workers.

“BMD has a strong track record delivering infrastructure across regional communities, and we understand the role local businesses, suppliers and workers play in setting projects up for success from the outset,” Mr Power said.

“Through this early works package, we anticipate approximately $50 million in direct spend with Central Queensland businesses, including around $3 million with First Nations-owned enterprises, alongside substantial local employment opportunities.

“Our focus is on working closely with Powerlink and the local supply chain to deliver this work safely and efficiently, while helping build capability that supports the region well beyond this project.”

BMD will work closely with Powerlink, project partners and the local supply chain to progress the early works package, supporting construction readiness for the broader transmission reinforcement program.
