Healesville Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade
After nearly 40 years of service, the existing treatment plant is being replaced with a modern facility that will increase wastewater treatment capacity, support reliable sewer services for Healesville and surrounding regions and contribute to improved environmental outcomes for the Yarra River.
The upgrade will increase treatment capacity by almost 80%, from around 1.4 million litres to 2.5 million litres per day. It will also provide increased wet weather storage and supporting electrical and civil infrastructure, improving the resilience of Healesville's wastewater network and its ability to manage wet weather events.
The existing treatment plant will remain operational throughout construction, maintaining services while the new facility is delivered.
A collaborative design process with Yarra Valley Water is underpinning the optimisation of plant upgrades, delivered through a combination of construct-only and design-and-construct packages.
The upgraded infrastructure will support the Healesville community for years to come, with the facility designed to a 2056 planning horizon and built to adapt to evolving regulatory requirements.
