BMD and delivery partner SMEC are delivering the Wastewater Sewer Trunk Mains Programme for the Mount Barker District Council in South Australia.

The project’s highly collaborative Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) approach focuses on optimising pipe material selection, construction methods and key design considerations. This includes managing groundwater, ensuring secure pipe alignments and designing maintenance structures to withstand uplift forces.

Project scope

Construction of two sewer pump stations, including emergency sewer storage

Installation of approximately 4 kilometres of rising main, recycled water mains, gravity sewer reticulation and associated railway crossings

Installation of approximately 4 kilometres of GRP and HDPE gravity sewer trunk mains linking into existing sewer and recycled water assets

Installation of pressure monitoring, flow monitoring and regulation, and pressure regulation pipework including integration into existing SCADA network

Project outcomes

Nairne Sewer Trunk Main – Stage 1: Delivered 2.5 kilometres of rising main, two pump stations and an emergency storage facility.

Nairne–Hay Valley Recycled Water Main – Stage 1: Installed 1.6 kilometres of recycled water pipeline.

CBD Trunk Main: Built 1.6 kilometres of gravity pipeline with two creek crossings.

Mount Barker Central Sector Trunk Main: Completed 2.4 kilometres of gravity pipeline.

Eastern Sector Trunk Main – Stages 2 and 3: Finalising design for 1.9 kilometres of gravity pipeline.
