Northshore Hamilton Development
The upgrades will transform 40 hectares of industrial port land to accommodate 14,000 dwellings and house over 24,000 people, parkland and commercial, retail and industrial businesses.
BMD was initially engaged by Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) under an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) arrangement to support the delivery of the Northshore Hamilton Major Roads Project.
Following the Queensland Government's review of Brisbane 2032 infrastructure requirements, BMD's engagement evolved to support the revised Northshore Street Renewal Program, with a renewed focus on unlocking future residential and commercial development opportunities across the precinct.
Working collaboratively with EDQ, designers, utility authorities and key stakeholders, BMD played a leading role in reassessing project priorities, refining scope, and developing an updated methodology and delivery program aligned with the revised objectives.
BMD was contracted to deliver Stages 1 and 2 of the Northshore Street Renewal Program works across key Northshore streets to enable Economic Development Queensland to deliver 5 Super Lots to the market for housing and commercial land use.
Works included:
Construction of a new 900+ space car park at Northshore Hamilton
Demolition and removal of existing structures, services and the approximately 300-metre-long M4 Wharf
Crushing and reuse of onsite concrete and unsuitable materials for earthworks
Bulk earthworks and ground preparation
Installation and upgrade of stormwater drainage, sewer and water infrastructure
Construction and upgrade of roads, including drainage, pavements, kerbs, asphalt, line marking and road furniture
Construction of new footpaths and shared paths
Installation of water-sensitive urban design features, including bioretention areas
Installation of street lighting, electrical, traffic signal and communications infrastructure
Relocation and disconnection of existing telecommunications and gas services
Innovation
Removing the former M4 Wharf required specialist divers to work underwater to safely cut and prepare the existing piles for removal. Working closely with the marine and lifting teams, the works were carefully planned and coordinated to manage safety, environmental requirements and changing site conditions, which included buried infrastructure and submerged debris.
