BMD, a Queensland-founded business that has grown into Australia’s largest privately owned civil contractor, has been selected to deliver Brisbane Stadium Early Works at Victoria Park, helping prepare for a major milestone in Queensland’s delivery pathway ahead of 2032.

Awarded by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA), the package marks an important phase in the delivery of Brisbane Stadium ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

BMD’s scope includes bulk earthworks, erosion and sediment controls, semi-permanent fencing, stormwater drains, retaining walls and establishment of a logistics plaza to prepare the precinct for the next stage of works under a design and construct contract with design partner GHD.

BMD Chief Executive Officer Scott Power said the project team’s focus was on careful, respectful delivery that helps set the next stage of Brisbane Stadium up for success.

“Early works play a critical role in setting major projects up for success,” Mr Power said.

“Our focus is on careful planning, strong collaboration with GIICA, the broader project team and the community.

We understand the responsibility that comes with working in a place that means so much to so many Queenslanders, and we will draw on our local workforce, supply chain and civil construction experience to deliver the works with care and a commitment to positive long-term outcomes.

With civil earthworks forming a major component of the project, BMD has engaged long-term partner, Indigenous-owned Bajara Plant Hire to support delivery.

The partnership will also create pathways for Indigenous trainees into civil construction and plant operations, with participants gaining hands-on experience, mentoring and transferable skills to support long-term employment opportunities across Queensland’s infrastructure pipeline.

Driven by a purpose of powering futures and creating legacies, BMD has helped deliver infrastructure across Brisbane, including Legacy Way Tunnel and the recently awarded Gateway to Bruce Upgrade.

With works expected to commence later in 2026, the project represents an opportunity for BMD to contribute to Queensland’s next chapter by helping prepare the foundations for a destination designed to deliver lasting benefit well beyond the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032.
