BMD is backing 32 grassroots organisations across Australia, helping deliver practical initiatives that strengthen the communities where its people live and work.

Now in its fifth year, the program was established during the COVID‑19 pandemic to support grassroots organisations and has since delivered more than $500,000 in funding to local communities.

BMD CEO Scott Power said the program reflects BMD’s long-term commitment to creating value beyond the infrastructure projects it delivers.

“Rising material and fuel costs are placing significant strain on community groups, while demand for their services continues to grow,” Mr Power said.

“Through our Community Assistance Program, BMD continues to power futures and create lasting legacies by supporting local organisations that deliver meaningful benefits in the communities where we operate.”

“As a family-owned business, our approach has always been about more than infrastructure. It is about building trusted relationships, investing locally and supporting the people and organisations that help communities thrive.”

One organisation to benefit this year is Sing Sing Sing, with the organisation using $4,500 of funding to reach more people living with dementia and their carers, particularly those at risk of isolation after diagnosis.

Founded by professional singer Melissa Gill, the choir was born from her personal experience caring for her father, when singing became one of the last ways they could meaningfully connect.

“After a diagnosis, so many people withdraw, families can feel isolated, unsure where to turn, and often miss out on opportunities that could help them stay connected to their community,” Melissa said.

“This isn’t just singing, it’s about helping people feel like themselves again, and through critical awareness and marketing efforts supported by this funding, we can reach families earlier who might not otherwise know this community exists.”

The organisations supported this year are delivering initiatives across sport, education, inclusion, wellbeing, environmental conservation, arts and culture. Recipients include DeadlyScience, supporting culturally responsive STEM programs for Indigenous students in Townsville and Cloncurry; Feed it Forward, supporting food rescue operations in Western Australia; and I Got You Ltd, delivering suicide prevention toolbox talks on construction sites in Canberra.

The Community Assistance Program forms part of BMD’s $1.5 billion annual investment with local suppliers and partners, alongside strategic initiatives across sport, education, arts and culture. Through these programs, BMD supports diversity, inclusion, reconciliation and grassroots initiatives that create lasting community impact.
