BMD marked International Women’s Day by bringing employees together for a national livestream event focused on this year’s theme, Give To Gain.

Broadcast from Melbourne to a live audience and employees across the business, the panel explored how intentional support through mentoring, advocacy and creating opportunities can amplify impact across the construction industry and beyond.

Opened by General Manager Corporate Affairs Katie O’Malley and led by moderator Human Resources Manager Stacey Palmer, the panel featured insights from Senior Project Engineer Joanna Ly, Project Manager Lauren Mua and General Manager Ivan Fratric, with a special guest appearance from BMD partner and Melbourne Vixens player Hannah Mundy.

The discussion reflected on the experiences of women in construction, site-based career pathways, the power of mentoring, giving back to the industry, evolving government policy and the connection between lessons from sport and the workplace.

The event also provided an opportunity to reinforce BMD’s ongoing commitment to gender equality, following the release of the company’s 2026 Gender Pay Gap Statement.

BMD’s latest statement confirms that while the business is making progress, there is more work to do to improve gender representation across the construction industry, particularly in operational, technical and senior leadership roles. During the 2024-25 reporting period, BMD’s average total remuneration gender pay gap reduced by 6.4 percentage points compared to 2022-23 results, reflecting continued focus on increasing female participation and leadership representation across the Group.

BMD CEO Scott Power said building a more inclusive industry requires deliberate action and accountability.

“At BMD, powering futures and creating legacies starts with our people. As leaders in an industry that craves diverse perspectives, it is fundamental that we demonstrate our equitable commitments and hold our leaders and teams accountable to do the same,” Scott said.
