BMD brings construction to the court with Melbourne Vixens
In a hard-fought contest, the Vixens defeated the GIANTS, with BMD helping bring energy, colour and construction-themed fun to the match day experience.
Fans were welcomed into the stadium with pink BMD hi-vis vests, transforming the stands into a sea of pink. The Big Match Digger inflatable, a three-quarter time wheelbarrow obstacle course and the crowd-favourite Construction Cam kept the arena buzzing, with supporters bringing their best ‘digging’ moves to the big screen.
The occasion was made extra special with BMD Pipe Foreman Steven’s daughter Aria, a dedicated Melbourne Vixens fan, stepping onto the court to present the match ball.
BMD has been a partner of the Melbourne Vixens since 2023, with the BMD logo featured on the right shoulder of players’ uniforms for every contest, clash and victory.
Through its partnership with the Vixens, BMD is helping connect young people with the diverse career pathways available across construction and engineering, from site-based roles to office-based careers and the many teams that contribute to delivering major infrastructure.
BMD General Manager VIC/SA/TAS Ivan Fratric said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to creating better opportunities for women and improving visibility and representation.
“The construction industry has changed significantly, and today there are now more ways opportunities than ever for people from all backgrounds to build a meaningful and rewarding career in our sector,” Ivan said.
“Major infrastructure projects rely on a wide range of skills and expertise, from engineers and site teams through to safety, environment, sustainability, procurement, finance, communications and project support.
“That is why partnerships like this matter. The Melbourne Vixens provide a valuable opportunity for BMD to connect with young people, particularly women and girls, and help them see that the skills they build through sport including teamwork, resilience, communication and leadership can translate into real career pathways in construction and engineering.
“If we want to attract the next generation to our industry, we need to show them the full picture of what a construction career can be.”
As women’s sport continues to grow in reach and influence, the Melbourne Vixens offer BMD a powerful platform to connect with future leaders.
The club recently surpassed 10,000 members for the first time in its history, reflecting the strength of its fan base and the growing role of netball in inspiring young people across Victoria.
