About the project
BMD, in joint venture with McConnell Dowell (MBJV), delivered the Fitzroy to Gladstone Pipeline for the Gladstone Area Water Board, strengthening long-term water security for the Gladstone region.
The project comprised a 117-kilometre pipeline, a sediment removal plant, reservoirs and pumping stations to create a critical regional water connection between the Lower Fitzroy River and Gladstone Area Water Board's existing water network at Yarwun.
Scope
Design and delivery of a river intake pumping station to pump raw water 3.5 kilometres down to the sediment removal plant outside Rockhampton. The plant included sludge handling, a 10ML water storage reservoir and heavy-duty high lift pumps. The 106-kilometre 1.0 metre diameter MSCL pipe and 11-kilometre HDPE pipe transport the raw water to two 50ML water storage tanks near Gladstone.
Installation of over 9,100 pipe lengths and 44,000 pipe lifts
Delivered 21 trenchless crossings beneath major waterways and transport corridors
Completed over 3.5 million square metres of progressive reinstatement
Outcomes
Adopted 32 innovative initiatives into delivery, generating approximately $55 million in value through design refinement, constructability improvements and construction efficiencies
Strengthened local capability and long-term economic resilience with $160 million spend with local suppliers, engaging 152 regional businesses
Employed over 500 workforce (peak), including over 400 local workers and 21 traineeships to strengthen local capability and employment opportunities
Ongoing collaboration with Traditional Owners and employment of Indigenous workforce to strengthen long-term operational resilience
