BMD Constructions awarded Western Sydney International Airport landside works contract
The project reinforces our capabilities in the delivery of airport infrastructure, recently demonstrated in the delivery of Brisbane Airport’s New Parallel Runway which was awarded the Cbus Super Fund Project of the Year Award at the Queensland Major Contractors Association and won an Earth Award at the 2020 Civil Contractors Federation in the projects over $75 million category.
BMD Group Director and Chief Executive Officer Scott Power said the project will continue to broaden our capability reach across the Southern Region.
“The Western Sydney Airport project builds on our diversification strategy particularly in the Southern Region, which sees us expanding our portfolio in major airport and port works in addition to our existing success upgrading major road networks,” he said.
The works will include the design and construction of the airport’s landside facilities including earthworks and drainage, a road network including connections to the terminal precinct, ground transport facilities, active transport connections, ancillary facilities for aviation support functions, public utility networks, integrated communication systems, landscaping, wayfinding and signage.
An environmental management framework has been developed with initiatives to use recycled and sustainable materials during construction and reduce emissions. Construction of the landside precinct is scheduled to begin in 2022, with Western Sydney International Airport on track to open to international, domestic and air cargo services, managing ten million passengers annually, in late 2026.
