Perth’s transport infrastructure reaches new heights with official opening
Delivered by the Armadale Line Upgrade Alliance (ALUA) comprising BMD, ACCIONA, WSP and AECOM, this transformative project is setting a new benchmark for safer, more connected, and more accessible public transport in Western Australia.
Since the Armadale Line closed in November 2023, the project rapidly progressed works with the removal of the boom gates, signalling the start of a comprehensive demolition phase.
Within weeks, most of the old stations and tracks were dismantled, paving the way for piling works. Over the past 12 months, the landscape has been transformed with the construction of five new elevated stations at Carlisle, Oats Street, Queens Park, Cannington, and Beckenham.
In addition to the new stations, the project included six major intersection modifications, the removal of existing level crossings, and the construction of two bus interchanges, significantly streamlining transport services.
The four kilometres of elevated rail not only improve network efficiency but also contribute to major utility upgrades and the creation of six hectares of landscaped public space, fostering vibrant and accessible community areas, which will open later in the year.
BMD General Manager Western Australia Leon Fogliani said the project was a testament to BMD’s commitment to working collaboratively with our clients and stakeholders and delivering on our commitments to the community.
"The METRONET Victoria Park-Canning Level Crossing Removal Project is an example of what can be achieved through a commitment to collaboration, dedication, and delivering on project milestones,” he said.
“Close to 10,000 hard working personnel contributed their skills and expertise to the project and each and every one of them should be very proud of what they have achieved.”
“We look forward to continuing our role in delivering transformative infrastructure projects that drive progress and innovation."
The successful delivery of this complex project demonstrates BMD’s capability in leading large-scale urban infrastructure solutions in collaboration with government and industry partners.
