BMD’s Mitchell Freeway Extension project engages with the local Perth community
Our Mitchell Freeway Extension project in Western Australia has taken sustainability and community engagement into their own hands by creating a yarning circle for local primary school, Quinns Rocks. The team repurposed 12 mature grass trees, zamia palms and timber from site.
Representatives from BMD, Georgiou and Main Roads Western Australia gathered with Quinns Rocks students and a representative from the Whadjuk Noongar community, Steven Jacobs, to take part in a traditional Smoking Ceremony celebrating the official opening of the yarning circle.
A yarning circle is a harmonious and collaborative space to communicate, encouraging respectful and honest interactions. At BMD, we work in partnership with the communities in which we operate to achieve long lasting benefits in the areas of community development, health and wellbeing, arts and culture and environment. It is our hope that this initiative will leave a lasting impact on Quinns Rocks Primary School and the broader Perth community.
Leon Fogliani, BMD Constructions’ Western Australian Operations Manager celebrated the inauguration by highlighting the commitment of the joint venture partners to reconciliation. “The Mitchell Freeway Extension Project has targets to deliver real employment and business opportunities for Traditional Owners and their businesses".
We are proud to be part of a project delivering quality infrastructure and creating long-term relationships within the Perth community. Congratulations to everyone involved for supporting their local community in such a meaningful way.
