BMD gets former ironwoman Bonnie Hancock home after her surf ski paddle around Australia in support of mental health
Paddling 12,700 kilometres around Australia over a 254-day journey, Bonnie has made Australian sporting history, claiming two world records for the fastest circumnavigation of mainland Australia by paddle and the longest 24-hour paddle.
Faced with significant challenges over her journey, Bonnie has not only broken world records but has raised over $75,000 for Gotcha4Life, an Australian not-for-profit foundation that delivers mental fitness programs that engage, educate and empower local communities.
In a year where the importance of mental health has never been so critical, BMD Group Board Chairman, Mick Power AM was proud to come on board in the final weeks of Bonnie’s mammoth quest around Australia.
“Bonnie came to BMD for fuel and logistics funds to get her home. Having been a member of BMD Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club for over 40 years and naming rights sponsor for over 15, I am glad we could have had a part in getting Bonnie and her crew home safely."
“Given the devastating loss of our good friend Paul Green who was an advocate for wellness and wellbeing for BMD this sponsorship for Bonnie was timely.” Mr Power said.
All funds raised during Bonnie’s paddle around Australia will help equip the next generation of Australians with the tools and resources they require to deal with any adversity they may face in their lives.
BMD is proud to support initiatives that help raise awareness and achieve long lasting benefits for the wider community and commend Bonnie on her paddle around Australia to raise much needed funding for such a great cause!
